Treatments
In order to achieve rehabilitative goals, the application of manual therapies, electrotherapies, and prescription exercise work together in order to reduce pain, promote healing, and improve mobility and function.
Laser or ‘Low Level Laser Therapy’ utilises photons to stimulate the upregulation of the body’s natural healing processes in order to optimise cellular repair mechanisms and help restore normal cellular function following injury. Due to this mechanism of action, LASER can be highly beneficial in assisting with: acute and chronic pain, inflammation, soft tissue injuries, wound healing and trigger points.

PEME or ‘Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy’ works with electric and magnetic fields to induce small electrical currents within the target tissue in order to create changes within the cellular environment, restoring integrity and function of tissues at a faster rate. PEME has been found to be effective in optimising healing in acute/chronic soft tissue injuries, promoting bone healing and assisting pain relief.

Massage therapy is defined as the ‘systematic manipulation of soft tissues using rhythmic pressure and strokes to prevent injury, maintain and rehabilitate function and to promote pain relief. Massage is highly beneficial as it increases tissue extensibility, range of motion, promotes healing and reduces pain.

Stretching is a manual therapy that consists of applying forces to a limb or body area to lengthen muscles or connective tissue beyond their normal resting lengths. Stretching is often used to increase flexibility, joint range of motion and reduce muscle soreness.

Heat therapy or ‘thermotherapy’ is the application of heat to body tissues. Thermotherapy has a number of physiological effects including but not limited to, pain relief, increasing blood flow and elasticity of connective tissues. Furthermore, heat can have a relaxation effect - meaning it is a firm favourite amongst our clients. The ‘Epiony Heat Mat’ is a great way to apply heat therapy in practice!

Remedial exercise consists of active, targeted and tailored exercises implemented within your animal’s therapy plan for a specific goal or purpose. Remedial exercise is included in the physiotherapists tool kit for numerous reasons and, depending on the goal, can: improve strength and endurance, improve joint range of motion, correct gait patterning and improve proprioception.
